10 Questions with: Eleanor Douglas-Meyers (JustEllaBella)

Ootrey's ten questions

A while ago we were looking for a "brand ambassador". A term a bit too "squarepants" for us. Think of it more as a fellow four-eyed spirit who embodies everything our brand stands for...uniqueness, quirkiness, creativeness and you know..."breaking the bounds of what's considered proper".

Meet "L" aka Eleanor Douglas-Meyers, aka JustEllaBella.

  1. If you had to explain to an alien who you are and what you do…what would you say?

I feel like if I had to encounter an alien my CV would be the last thing on my mind. I’d say I am definitely not tasty and don’t do well in confined spaces, like a glass jar or in display in an alien zoo for instance.(insert blank stare) If you mean alien as in a offensive term for a person of foreign origin (we would never...really), then I am a “creative entrepreneur” I do freelance writing, newspaper/magazine layout, organize events, have a small jewelry line and will be launching an online shop soon, it’s all very closely linked to my blog JustEllaBella. Also I am a mommy and a wifey and an aunty and quite friendly…

  1. How long have you been wearing glasses?

I got my first pair when I was about 12. I went through a stage in University where I decided that I was too cool for glasses (a year or so)  and only started wearing them again when I fit on a friends pair and remembered what being able to see felt like.

  1. What is hyperopia and myopia?

Far sighted and near sighted. I have myopia cause I’m not about the hype, get it? see what I did there? (Uhmmm...you can't see things at a distance?)

  1. Aside from your Ootrey glasses, what is your go-to accessory?

My hair! No jokes, I hardly wear any jewelry, well the stud earrings I make (shameless self promotion) but in day to day life I feel like my big curly fro is all the accessory I need. (you go girl finger snap)

  1. What’s your favourite movie and why?

I can’t decide because I don’t like to pick favourites I don’t even have a favourite colour what if the other colours feel bad ? then what? That being said, I quite like Deadpool and also The Proposal, do with that what you will. (These two couldn't be any further apart...Ryan Reynolds crush any one?)

  1. What advice would you give your 12-year-old self?

I would tell her that it’s okay to be different! There is nothing wrong with not fitting in. Also you know how people tease you about your big hair and your accent and your nose that’s always in a book, well one day you will have your own radio show (briefly) with that voice, you will be encouraging other women to embrace their truth with you hair and other people will be reading what you write. So they can Suck It.

  1. What’s your favourite album and why?

Photo album. (Music album "L")  eish I don’t have a favourite album, never have, unless you count that stint with my love of the Spice Girls, I love singing actually, it’s my go to thing to do but when it comes to music it’s what ever song catches my fancy, I do have a thing for French Jazz though, Carli Bruni is bae (I might be too old to say bae) (Minus 5000 points for liking Spice Girls...what is bae?)

  1. Which came first…the chicken or the egg?

Egg, duh, cause egg is breakfast food and chicken is lunch food. (Agreed! Takes a bite out of a Nando's drumstick)

  1. What’s your favourite book and why?

I have read Pride and Prejudice a couple of times and Wuthering Heights, so that’s the closest I’ve come to having a favourite book. I read ALL THE THINGS! Cereal boxes the works. (Yeah...the new Kelloggs box is a great read!)

  1. Favourite quote/motto/mantra?

It changes but right now right here it is PRAY HARD SLAY HARD J.

You can find Eleanor on Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. Also, be sure to subscribe to her blog at www.justellabella.co.za.
